Chapter 1
The Secret of Sarek
Véronique d'Hergemont continues her investigation on the island of Sarek, uncovering the mysterious secret that links the ancient prophecy of the thirty coffins to the Vorski family's dark legacy. She discovers hidden passages and learns more about the island's tragic history, including the murder of Antoine d'Hergemont and Marie Le Goff, while confronting the lingering threat of Count Alexis Vorski.
Chapter 2
The Deserted Cabin
Véronique d'Hergemont, prompted by a detective's letter, travels to a remote cabin in Brittany where she discovers her own maiden signature inscribed on the door. Inside, she finds the mutilated corpse of an old man, deepening the mystery. The chapter also recounts her painful memories of her marriage to Alexis Vorski and the prophecy that he would die by a friend's hand and she would be crucified.
Chapter 3
II: On the Edge of the Atlantic
Véronique follows a trail of mysterious inscriptions marked with her maiden initials and numbers, leading her to the beach at Beg-Meil. There she meets Honorine, a Breton woman who knows her name and reveals that Véronique's father and son are alive on the Isle of Sarek, also known as Coffin Island. Despite warnings of danger and a curse, Véronique insists on going to the island to reunite with her son.
Chapter 4
III: Vorski's Son
Véronique arrives on the Isle of Sarek with Honorine, eager to reunite with her son François, whom she believes to be gentle and kind. However, upon reaching the Priory, she witnesses François shooting her father, M. d'Hergemont, and then Honorine, revealing his true violent nature inherited from his father Vorski. M. d'Hergemont dies, warning Véronique to escape the island and mentioning the God-Stone and the four crosses of Sarek. The chapter ends with Véronique and Honorine rushing to the Priory after hearing cries.
Chapter 5
IV: The Poor People of Sarek
Véronique tends to Honorine's wound and discovers the bodies of her father Antoine and Marie Le Goff. She struggles with the revelation that her son François is Vorski's son and a murderer. Honorine, driven mad by grief and superstition, calls out for François before leaping to her death. The island's inhabitants flee by boat, and Véronique is left alone on Coffin Island, haunted by the legend of the God-Stone and the prophecy of doom.
