> The Room in the Dragon Volant by J. Sheridan Le Fanu

## Answer

The Room in the Dragon Volant by J. Sheridan Le Fanu develops Class and Wealth across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.

The protagonist's inherited wealth and status as an English 'milord' attract the attention of the aristocratic but impoverished Count, highlighting themes of social hierarchy, financial desperation, and the corrupting influence of money.

The narrator's inherited wealth enables his travels; the noble status of the strangers (indicated by their arms and carriage) fascinates him.

The Marquis discusses how rogues mimic the manners of the upper class to lure wealthy victims, and the narrator's large fortune makes him a target.

The Marquis advises on prudent spending and upcoming art sales, and the St. Alyres' financial situation and diamond dispute highlight class and wealth tensions.
