# Père Guinardon — The Revolt of the Angels character guide

> Père Guinardon in The Revolt of the Angels by Anatole France.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Guinardon

**First appearance:** 0000-i

## Snapshot

An old painter and art restorer whose sharp tongue and sharper eye make him a fixture of the Montmartre circle where angels and mortals conspire.

## Who they are

Guinardon belongs to the bohemian Paris that Anatole France paints with affectionate irony—a world of cheap wine, unfinished canvases, and opinions delivered without hesitation. His craft ties him to the material past, to things made and remade by human hands, which quietly mirrors the novel's obsession with creation, forgery, and who gets to claim authorship of the world. As the celestial plot gathers in the cafés and gardens around him, his skeptical, earthbound voice keeps the rebellion grounded in the everyday.
