# Lucy Wodehouse — The Rector and The Doctor’s Family character guide

> Lucy Wodehouse in The Rector and The Doctor’s Family by Margaret Oliphant.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Lucy, Lucy Wodehouse, Miss Lucy, Miss Lucy Wodehouse

**First appearance:** 0000-the-rector

## Snapshot

Bright, blue-ribboned daughter of the Wodehouse household, whose easy friendliness and practical competence quietly unsettle the rector's anxious, self-absorbed world.

## Who they are

Lucy belongs to the Wodehouse family circle that orbits the rector's parish, and her brisk capability is constantly measured against her sister's flustered goodness. Where the rector once fretted over imagined matrimonial plots, Lucy's unassuming presence exposes how much of his turmoil is vanity rather than duty. She matters because she embodies the ordinary, unspectacular competence the story keeps testing against clerical self-importance.
