> The Purple Cloud by M. P. Shiel

## Answer

The Purple Cloud by M. P. Shiel develops Prophecy and Warning across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.

The character Mackay serves as a prophetic figure who warns against defying divine boundaries, echoing biblical themes of ignored warnings that precede universal catastrophe.

The epigraph directly invokes a Sibylline prophecy, establishing a theme of foreboding and inevitable doom.

The purple cloud fulfills earlier prophecies of doom for the polar expedition and humanity.

Mackay's sermons against the Boreal expedition serve as a prophetic warning, ignored by a world consumed by greed.
