First appearance: xi hunting a very big boar
As a supporting figure in The Prisoner of Zenda, Johann is not background color—the story leans on what they do once the chapter opens.
The duke's keeper who is startled by Rassendyll's red hair and mentions having seen the king.
Johann runs the household at Zenda, waiting on Duke Michael's gentlemen and one mysterious lady, while sulking away from his sweetheart in town. Overworked and under-loved, he is exactly the kind of man whose vanity and appetite can be turned against him. His loose tongue and looser loyalties make him the thread by which the king's friends hope to unravel Michael's plans.
