> Mrs. Slater in The Place Called Dagon by Herbert Gorman.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Slater, II Mrs. Slater

**First appearance:** 0001-the-place-called-dagon

## Snapshot

The Slater household's presiding matron, she anchors a crowded domestic world of children and corned beef that Dreeme observes from the edges.

## Who they are

Mrs. Slater runs the boardinghouse where Dreeme takes his meals and where Deborah, her New England niece, has come to stay. Her bustling, matter-of-fact presence frames the ordinary life against which the story's stranger hungers and buried heirlooms stand out. She is the gatekeeper of the house's rhythms, and it is through her table that Dreeme first truly sees Deborah.
