The Odyssey

Homer's Odyssey exists in dozens of English translations. This BetterReads edition uses William Cullen Bryant's nineteenth-century verse (Harvard Classics)—formal, with Latin names such as Ulysses and Jove. Other well-known paths include Emily Wilson (2017, plain modern verse), Robert Fagles and Richmond Lattimore (twentieth-century classics), and Samuel Butler's plain prose (available below from Project Gutenberg, read-only without companions). No single translation is "the" Odyssey; choose the voice that fits you.
