The Necromancers
Laurie Baxter, a young man grieving the death of his fiancée Amy Nugent, becomes increasingly drawn to spiritualism and séances, much to the concern of his friends and family. His obsession with contacting Amy grows, leading him to reject Christian consolation and embrace the occult, despite warnings from Mr. Cathcart and others. The chapter depicts Laurie's psychological and spiritual transformation, his refusal to attend further séances after a disturbing experience, and the growing alarm of those who love him, particularly Maggie Deronnais.
