# Chet Morton — The Mystery of Cabin Island character guide > Chet Morton in The Mystery of Cabin Island by Franklin W. Dixon. **Role:** supporting **Also known as:** Chet **First appearance:** 0000-i-iceboating-on-the-bay ## Snapshot The Hardys' skeptical, hungry-for-home chum, forever puncturing Frank's theories with a joke just before the mystery proves him wrong. ## Who they are Chet is the voice of comfortable disbelief, scoffing that the man who drove them off Cabin Island is merely a cranky old chap who bosses rabbits and snowbirds, and grumbling that the long way around through the woods is a long way around. Yet he's right there in the iceboat when the strange zigzagging craft bears down on them, and his dry asides measure how far the others have committed. His reluctance makes the boys' choice to camp on the island feel like a real decision rather than a foregone one. ## Relationships ### [Frank Hardy](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_mystery_of_cabin_island_se/characters/frank_hardy) _friendship_ Chet is Frank's loyal friend and frequent companion, often joining the Hardy boys on their adventures despite his cautious nature. ### [Joe Hardy](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_mystery_of_cabin_island_se/characters/joe_hardy) _friendship_ Chet and Joe share a playful, easygoing friendship, with Chet often providing comic relief and moral support. ### [Biff Hooper](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_mystery_of_cabin_island_se/characters/biff_hooper) _friendship_ Biff and Chet are good friends, frequently spending time together and supporting the Hardy boys' efforts. ### [Mr. Hanleigh](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_mystery_of_cabin_island_se/characters/mr_hanleigh) _rivalry_ Chet is wary of Mr. Hanleigh and sides with the Hardy boys against him. ### [Elroy Jefferson](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_mystery_of_cabin_island_se/characters/elroy_jefferson) _rivalry_ Chet is suspicious of Elroy Jefferson and views him as an enemy of the Hardy boys. ### [Frank Hardy](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_mystery_of_cabin_island_se/characters/frank_hardy) _friendship_ Chet is Frank's loyal friend and frequent companion, often joining the Hardy boys on their adventures despite his cautious nature. ### [Mr. Hanleigh](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_mystery_of_cabin_island_se/characters/mr_hanleigh) _rivalry_ Chet is wary of Mr. Hanleigh and sides with the Hardy boys against him. ### [Biff Hooper](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_mystery_of_cabin_island_se/characters/biff_hooper) _friendship_ Biff and Chet are good friends, frequently spending time together and supporting the Hardy boys' efforts. ### [Joe Hardy](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_mystery_of_cabin_island_se/characters/joe_hardy) _friendship_ Chet and Joe share a playful, easygoing friendship, with Chet often providing comic relief and moral support. ### [Elroy Jefferson](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_mystery_of_cabin_island_se/characters/elroy_jefferson) _rivalry_ Chet is suspicious of Elroy Jefferson and views him as an enemy of the Hardy boys. ### [Frank Hardy](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_mystery_of_cabin_island_se/characters/frank_hardy) _friendship_ Chet is Frank's loyal friend and frequent companion, often joining the Hardy boys on their adventures despite his cautious nature. ### [Biff Hooper](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_mystery_of_cabin_island_se/characters/biff_hooper) _friendship_ Biff and Chet are good friends, frequently spending time together and supporting the Hardy boys' efforts. ## In the story ### [I: Iceboating on the Bay](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_mystery_of_cabin_island_se/chapters/i-iceboating-on-the-bay) Plump and good-natured;
