> Ludovico in The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Poor Ludovico, O Ludovico

**First appearance:** 0011-x

## Snapshot

A bold, good-humored servant who volunteers to spend a night in the haunted chamber and proves one of Emily's few reliable allies.

## Who they are

Ludovico is the sharp-eyed servant who reads Montoni's grim preparations and the cutthroat strangers gathering at the castle more clearly than anyone else will admit. His willingness to test the haunted room, and his attachment to Annette, mark him as brave where others are merely frightened. He matters because his observations and eventual aid give Emily a rare channel of information and loyalty inside Udolpho's walls.
