# Dr. Morlandson — The Murders in Praed Street character guide

> Dr. Morlandson in The Murders in Praed Street by John Rhode.

**Role:** major

**Also known as:** Morlandson, this Dr. Morlandson

**First appearance:** 0003-iii-the-inquest

## Snapshot

A doctor convicted of poisoning a patient with morphia, whose decades-old trial the Professor exhumes as the murders resist every modern explanation.

## Who they are

Morlandson was tried at the Old Bailey for killing a patient with an overdose of morphia, sentenced to Dartmoor, and released on licence in 1920 after fourteen years. He vanished into seclusion to devote himself to chemical research, a bent he had always had. The Professor's seemingly irrelevant pursuit of this forgotten case unsettles Harold, who cannot see how a trial from the century's first decade bears on the deaths in Praed Street.
