He falls in love with Nah-ee-lah, a Moon Maid, and escapes with her to the hidden city of Laythe. Part II jumps centuries to a future Earth conquered by the Kalkars, descendants of the treacherous Orthis. Julian 20th, the Red Hawk, leads a massive exodus and rebellion against the Kalkar oppressors. He is captured, escapes, and forms an unlikely alliance with an Or-tis, ultimately defeating the Kalkars and driving them into the sea. The book concludes with the narrator revealing that he is the reincarnation of Julian 5th and Julian 20th, tying the cycles of war and love together.
