## Snapshot

A Corsican sailor of piratical bearing and monkish calm, Dominic serves as the narrator's trusted companion aboard the Tremolino, perfect in seamanship yet haunted by his nephew Cesar.

## Who they are

Dominic Cervoni commands respect aboard the Tremolino with his massive moustaches, remorseless eyes, and black caban that makes him look both piratical and monkish. He is a man superior to all scruples and terrors, yet his nephew Cesar—a livid, depraved youth entrusted to his care—brings a desolate expression of shame to his eyes. Charged with making a man of this unpromising creature, Dominic's patient brutality and genuine despair reveal the limits of even his formidable competence, anchoring the narrator's Mediterranean adventures in a world where family honor and vendetta shadow every voyage.
