**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Blessed, Yusouff, Yusouff the Triumphant

**First appearance:** 0006-v-milh-or-salt

## Snapshot

A merchant of a million dinars who calls his prosperity the Mercy of Allah, and his ruin a lesson in the same inscrutable kindness.

## Who they are

Yusouff the Blessed is a wealthy trader holding forth to his nephews, spinning his harrowing reversals into moral instruction while the youngest boy's mournful face hides a yawn. His fatal flaw is contentment: at thirty, with a million dinars, he dreams of gardens, manuscripts, and ease instead of the sharp dealing that made him. That itch to retire sets the whole cautionary tale in motion, turning his pious gratitude into the very trap he warns against.
