The colonel's beautiful, dark-eyed wife, whose composure under suspicion hides a history she has never told her husband.

## Who they are

Mrs. Barclay is a striking presence in the household, her olive complexion and Italian eyes marking her as an outsider in staid English society. When her husband is found dead, suspicion falls on her with the weight of every rumor about their marriage. Her stillness under interrogation is not guilt but something older and more painful, and it is the key Holmes must turn to unlock the case.
