## Who they are

Henry Wood, once Corporal Wood, is a man whose body has been broken by war and whose spirit has been broken by what he saw. He lives on the margins now, nursing a grievance against the colonel that has had years to mature. When Barclay dies, Wood's name surfaces like a stone in still water, and Holmes must decide whether the crooked man is a killer or a witness to something worse.
