> Blessington in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Mr. Blessington, This Blessington

**First appearance:** 0008-the-resident-patient

## Snapshot

A wealthy recluse who bankrolls a young doctor's practice, yet guards his own rooms and his own past with obsessive secrecy.

## Who they are

Mr. Blessington is a man of means who lives like a man in hiding, funding Dr. Trevelyan's practice on the condition that he himself remains undisturbed. His terror of strangers, his locked doors, and his refusal to explain his wealth mark him as someone with more to fear than ordinary burglars. The arrangement he proposes is generous on its surface and deeply strange underneath, and it is that strangeness Holmes is asked to explain.
