    Author's Note

    L. Frank Baum explains the origin of this book, describing how letters from children—especially one little girl named Dorothy—prompted him to write a sequel to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, fulfilling his promise after receiving over a thousand requests.

    Dedication

    The author dedicates the book to David C. Montgomery and Fred A. Stone, the actors who portrayed the Tin Woodman and the Scarecrow, acknowledging their performances that delighted children across the land.

  3. Chapter 3

    The Marvelous Land of Oz

    Tip, a young boy living with the witch Mombi, creates a pumpkin-headed man named Jack Pumpkinhead using a powder of life. After Mombi threatens to turn Tip into a statue, Tip and Jack flee, creating a Sawhorse for transportation. They journey to the Emerald City, which has been conquered by General Jinjur and her army of girls. The Scarecrow, former ruler, is deposed. Tip and his friends escape to seek help from the Tin Woodman, meeting the Woggle-Bug along the way. They construct a flying Gump and travel to Glinda the Good, who reveals that Tip is actually Princess Ozma, the rightful ruler of Oz, hidden by Mombi. Ozma is restored to the throne.

  4. Chapter 4

    Tip Manufactures a Pumpkinhead

    Tip, a young boy living with the sorceress Mombi in the Gillikin country, carves a pumpkin into a head and constructs a full wooden body, dressing it in Mombi's old clothes and naming it Jack Pumpkinhead.

  5. Chapter 5

    The Marvelous Powder of Life

    Tip creates a pumpkin-headed man to scare Mombi, but she discovers it and uses the Powder of Life to bring Jack Pumpkinhead to life. After Jack comes to life, Mombi threatens to transform Tip into a marble statue, forcing Tip to contemplate escape.
