# Citizen Tournefort — The League of the Scarlet Pimpernel character guide

> Citizen Tournefort in The League of the Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Tournefort, friend Tournefort

**First appearance:** 0001-i

## Snapshot

One of the Committee's sharpest sleuthhounds, a patient tracker whose quiet work puts the Pimpernel's enemies closer to their prey than they know.

## Who they are

Tournefort belongs to the unglamorous machinery of the Revolution — the men who shelter under porticos in storms and follow a scent through pitch-dark streets. He is useful to Chauvelin precisely because he is not a fanatic; he watches, reports, and lets others take the glory. His diligence is the kind of threat the League cannot charm or outwit, and his discoveries feed directly into the traps laid for the Pimpernel. He matters because he makes the hunters competent.
