> The Journal of a Disappointed Man by W. N. P. Barbellion

## Answer

The Journal of a Disappointed Man by W. N. P. Barbellion develops Ambition and Disappointment across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.

The narrative contrasts the author's early dreams of becoming a great naturalist with the harsh realities of ill health, professional setbacks, and unfulfilled potential, leading to a pervasive sense of disappointment and frustration.

The narrator's reflections on unfulfilled aspirations and the gap between dreams and reality.

The narrator expresses strong ambition to become a learned naturalist and to 'play a fine game,' yet is frustrated by his ill health and the limitations it imposes.

He laments his lost youthful genius and feels his career is slowing down; he envies others' success and struggles with insignificance.
