# Hama — The Jewels of Aptor character guide

> Hama in The Jewels of Aptor by Samuel R. Delany.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Hama Incarnate

**First appearance:** 0003-i

## Snapshot

The rival deity whose disciples shelter behind the fire mountain, hoarding a jewel the company must take before Argo's own can be rescued.

## Who they are

Hama is Argo's opposing power on Aptor, and the priestess's word sends the travelers toward a band of Hama's disciples beyond the volcano. The god never appears directly; the tension lives in the search — a temple to find, a jewel to seize, a rescue to complete in three days. That deadline and the unknown terrain make Hama's unseen presence the engine of the middle arc.
