# Geo — The Jewels of Aptor character guide > Geo in The Jewels of Aptor by Samuel R. Delany. **Role:** major **Also known as:** III Geo, VI Geo **First appearance:** 0001-the-jewels-of-aptor ## Snapshot A one-armed poet whose epic verses about Leptar and Aptor have made him famous, he now sails toward the very island his poem immortalized. ## Who they are Geo is the poet whose opening lines from The Galactica frame the entire conflict between Leptar and Aptor, giving him a strange authority as both chronicler and participant in the journey. He leads the expedition with a cynic's wit and a poet's eye, reading meaning into skeletons, shadows, and the eerie figures that haunt the roadways. His missing arm and his fame make him an unlikely hero, but his willingness to walk into the dark first is what keeps the group moving. ## Relationships ### [Urson](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_jewels_of_aptor_se/characters/urson) _friendship_ Geo and Urson are close companions, with Urson often acting as a loyal protector and friend to Geo on their journey. ### [Snake](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_jewels_of_aptor_se/characters/snake) _friendship_ Geo and Snake share a bond of mutual respect and cooperation, working together as allies in a dangerous world. ### [Iimmi](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_jewels_of_aptor_se/characters/iimmi) _friendship_ Geo and Iimmi are steadfast friends, with Iimmi providing emotional support and insight to Geo. ### [Leptar](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_jewels_of_aptor_se/characters/leptar) _friendship_ Geo and Leptar are allies, with Leptar serving as a wise and mystical guide to Geo. ### [Jordde](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_jewels_of_aptor_se/characters/jordde) _rivalry_ Geo and Jordde are antagonists, with Jordde opposing Geo's goals and creating conflict. ### [Hama](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_jewels_of_aptor_se/characters/hama) _friendship_ Geo and Hama are friendly acquaintances, with Hama offering occasional aid to Geo. ### [Snake](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_jewels_of_aptor_se/characters/snake) _friendship_ Geo and Snake share a bond of mutual respect and cooperation, working together as allies in a dangerous world. ### [Urson](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_jewels_of_aptor_se/characters/urson) _friendship_ Geo and Urson are close companions, with Urson often acting as a loyal protector and friend to Geo on their journey. ### [Urson](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_jewels_of_aptor_se/characters/urson) _friendship_ Geo and Urson are close companions, with Urson often acting as a loyal protector and friend to Geo on their journey. ### [Leptar](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_jewels_of_aptor_se/characters/leptar) _friendship_ Geo and Leptar are allies, with Leptar serving as a wise and mystical guide to Geo. ### [Leptar](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_jewels_of_aptor_se/characters/leptar) _friendship_ Geo and Leptar are allies, with Leptar serving as a wise and mystical guide to Geo. ### [Iimmi](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_jewels_of_aptor_se/characters/iimmi) _friendship_ Geo and Iimmi are steadfast friends, with Iimmi providing emotional support and insight to Geo. ## In the story ### [Epigraph](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_jewels_of_aptor_se/chapters/epigraph) Referred to as the one-armed poet and author of 'The Galactica'. ### [The Jewels of Aptor](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_jewels_of_aptor_se/chapters/the-jewels-of-aptor) Protagonist;
