# Mirzoza — The Indiscreet Jewels character guide > Mirzoza in The Indiscreet Jewels by Denis Diderot. **Role:** major **Also known as:** Young Mirzoza, the Ring Mirzoza **First appearance:** 0002-i-birth-of-mangogul ## Snapshot Mangogul's favorite sultana, whose wit and clear-eyed skepticism make her the one woman at court the Sultan cannot bear to test his ring on. ## Who they are Mirzoza holds the Sultan's heart and his ear, and she uses both to puncture his grandiosity with dry sense and sharper judgment. When Mangogul confesses the ring's power, she calls it diabolical and begs him not to use it on her — not from guilt, but from a clear-eyed sense that suspicion destroys what it investigates. Her presence anchors the novel's moral center: she is the reason Mangogul's experiments have a witness who refuses to flatter him. ## Relationships ### [Mangogul](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/characters/mangogul) _romantic_ Mangogul is deeply in love with his favorite sultana Mirzoza, sharing an intimate and passionate bond. ### [Kanaglou](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/characters/kanaglou) _friendship_ Kanaglou acts as a trusted friend and intermediary between Mirzoza and Mangogul, often defending her interests. ### [Erguebzed](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/characters/erguebzed) _rivalry_ Erguebzed harbors resentment toward Mirzoza, viewing her as a threat to his power and plotting against her. ### [Selim](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/characters/selim) _friendship_ Mirzoza and Selim are close friends who confide in each other and offer mutual emotional support. ### [Erguebzed](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/characters/erguebzed) _rivalry_ Erguebzed harbors resentment toward Mirzoza, viewing her as a threat to his power and plotting against her. ### [Mangogul](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/characters/mangogul) _romantic_ Mangogul is deeply in love with his favorite sultana Mirzoza, sharing an intimate and passionate bond. ### [Kanaglou](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/characters/kanaglou) _friendship_ Kanaglou acts as a trusted friend and intermediary between Mirzoza and Mangogul, often defending her interests. ### [Selim](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/characters/selim) _friendship_ Mirzoza and Selim are close friends who confide in each other and offer mutual emotional support. ### [Kanaglou](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/characters/kanaglou) _friendship_ Kanaglou acts as a trusted friend and intermediary between Mirzoza and Mangogul, often defending her interests. ### [Erguebzed](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/characters/erguebzed) _rivalry_ Erguebzed harbors resentment toward Mirzoza, viewing her as a threat to his power and plotting against her. ### [Mangogul](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/characters/mangogul) _romantic_ Mangogul is deeply in love with his favorite sultana Mirzoza, sharing an intimate and passionate bond. ### [Selim](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/characters/selim) _friendship_ Mirzoza and Selim are close friends who confide in each other and offer mutual emotional support. ## In the story ### [Dedication](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/chapters/dedication) Referenced as Aglaé, the virtuous and witty woman who contributed to the work. ### [The Indiscreet Toys](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/chapters/the-indiscreet-toys) The Sultan's favorite, who becomes a central figure in the ring's trials and the philosophical discussions that follow. ### [Education of Mangogul](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/chapters/ii-education-of-mangogul) Young Mirzoza is mentioned as one of the few who successfully won Mangogul's heart. ### [III: Which May Be Regarded as the First of This History](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/chapters/iii-which-may-be-regarded-as-the-first-of-this-history) The favorite, perceptive and witty, diagnoses Mangogul's boredom and suggests consulting Cucufa for new amusements. ### [Mangogul's Dangerous Temptation](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_indiscreet_jewels_se/chapters/v-mangogul-s-dangerous-temptation) Awakens to find Mangogul;
