> John Strake in The Incredulity of Father Brown by G. K. Chesterton.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Strake

**First appearance:** 0004-the-arrow-of-heaven

## Snapshot

A man bound up with the mystery of the arrow of heaven, whose presence unsettles the calm of those around him.

## Who they are

Strake belongs to the world of the arrow of heaven, a case in which violence arrives with an almost supernatural precision. He is a figure whose motives and movements are scrutinized by Father Brown and others, and whose manner invites suspicion even when nothing can be proven. In the story's early-middle arc, he embodies the uneasy blend of the ordinary and the uncanny that Chesterton uses to keep readers guessing.
