Rosemary holds the family's dignity together with a firm chin and a dry smile, showing Nancy the portraits and confessing she searched the attic herself for ghosts. She comforts Floretta after the pin disappears, but her uneasy glance at Nancy admits she is more frightened than she lets on. Her composure gives the mystery a respectable surface to crack, and her trust in Nancy turns a social call into an investigation.
