# Mr. John Lambert Mangan — The Great Impersonation character guide

> Mr. John Lambert Mangan in The Great Impersonation by E. Phillips Oppenheim.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Mr. Mangan, Mangan, Bertram, John

**First appearance:** 0001-ii

## Snapshot

Dominey's solicitor and lunch companion, a careful Englishman who explains the neighborhood's gossip and quietly studies his client's every word.

## Who they are

Mangan meets Dominey at the station, steers him through the Unthank confrontation, and pours the sherry while gently confirming that everyone in the county believes his client killed a man. He is the reader's guide to the social world — the duchesses, the rumors, the state of the cellars — and he is also a professional watching a client he does not entirely recognize. His mixture of loyalty, curiosity, and legal caution makes him the quiet barometer by which Dominey's performance is measured.
