First appearance: vi the cabin in the woods
As a supporting figure in The Great Airport Mystery, Mr. Smuff is not background color—the story leans on what they do once the chapter opens.
Delivers the chief's summons and later brings the boys to headquarters.
Smuff is the kind of official who mistakes procedure for competence, glowering at jokes and reminding everyone that his job is secure. He arrives at the boathouse to haul Frank and Joe before Chief Collig, unmoved by their confusion and uncurious about the case himself. His smug certainty that he is merely doing his duty sharpens the boys' frustration and underscores how thin the evidence against them really is.
