# Chief Collig — The Great Airport Mystery character guide

> Chief Collig in The Great Airport Mystery by Franklin W. Dixon.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Chief, Collig

**First appearance:** 0002-iii-a-promise-of-trouble

## Snapshot

Bayport's police chief, duty-bound to arrest the Hardy boys on a postal warrant even as he privately doubts the evidence against them.

## Who they are

Collig sits at the uncomfortable intersection of procedure and instinct: the post office wants Frank and Joe jailed, and he is the one who must put the cuffs on boys he half-believes are innocent. His cryptic hints about 'clues' found after the robbery deepen the mystery rather than resolve it, making him both obstacle and reluctant ally. His willingness to let the boys consult Fenton Hardy before booking them keeps the investigation alive in the story's tense middle chapters.
