# Don Luis Perenna — The Golden Triangle character guide

> Don Luis Perenna in The Golden Triangle by Maurice Leblanc.

**Role:** major

**Also known as:** Luis, Luis Perenna

**First appearance:** 0000-i-coralie

## Snapshot

A master detective whose courteous patience and theatrical timing turn a riverside stakeout into a trap, and whose grief for Ya-Bon hardens into vengeance.

## Who they are

Don Luis works by indirection: he books a ground-floor room at Mantes, tracks Siméon to the Belle Hélène, and refuses to let the hotheaded captain chase the veiled woman himself. His authority over Patrice is gentle but absolute, and his affection for Ya-Bon — the servant who once saved him in Africa — gives his cool competence a wound underneath. He is the mind the investigation leans on, and the man whose orders will cost him the companion he most trusted.
