# Coralie — The Golden Triangle character guide

> Coralie in The Golden Triangle by Maurice Leblanc.

**Role:** major

**Also known as:** Little Mother Coralie, Madame Coralie, Louise Coralie Countess Odolavitch, Coralie Essarès

**First appearance:** 0000-i-coralie

## Snapshot

The gentle nurse the wounded soldiers call Little Mother, whose hidden marriage to Essarès Bey turns her tenderness into the story's most dangerous vulnerability.

## Who they are

Coralie is the woman whose portrait hangs curtained in Essarès's house and whose presence at the hospital has quietly captured Patrice's heart; she is also, to his anguish, another man's wife. In the garden scene she stands exposed to the leader's insults and to her husband's torture without fleeing or calling out, a stillness that reads as shame, calculation, or something Patrice cannot name. Her double identity — nurse and countess, healer and hostage — makes her the hinge on which the mystery's romantic and criminal halves turn.
