Louis Dubedat's fiercely devoted wife, she believes absolutely in her husband's genius and will fight anyone who treats him as merely a clever brute.

## Who they are

Jennifer Dubedat arrives at Ridgeon's practice determined to save her dying husband, armed with his paintings and an unshakable faith in his worth. She is no naive innocent: she tells Ridgeon plainly that to him living things have no souls, and she defends the dear brutes she has loved against men who would vivisect them. Her devotion to Louis, and her grief when she learns how the doctors have judged him, gives the play its emotional center.
