# How does The Demi-Gods develop the theme of Nature and Survival?

> The Demi-Gods by James Stephens

## Answer

The Demi-Gods by James Stephens develops Nature and Survival across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.

The characters live intimately with the natural world—camping in quarries, sleeping in haystacks, and enduring rain—while the donkey and the elements are portrayed as sentient participants in their journey.

The group takes shelter in a broken house during a storm, highlighting the struggle for survival in a harsh natural environment.

The family's struggle to find food and shelter in the twilight landscape underscores their reliance on the natural world for sustenance.

Mac Cann and Mary are depicted in a survival setting—camping, cooking potatoes, and relying on the fire for warmth and light in the midst of a dark, mysterious night.
