> Soroka in The Deluge by Henryk Sienkiewicz.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** The trusty Soroka, the astonished Soroka, old Soroka, Pan Soroka

**First appearance:** 0007-i

## Snapshot

Kmita's trusty servant, a man who has followed his master through fire, flight, and worse, and whose astonishment at the world never quite wears off.

## Who they are

Soroka belongs to the small, unglamorous class of attendants whose loyalty outlasts their master's reputation, and he stays at Kmita's side through dangers that would send a wiser man home. His devotion is total but not blind—he watches, he wonders, he keeps his counsel. In a story crowded with colonels and castellans, he is the thread of ordinary fidelity that keeps the hero tethered to something human.
