# Pan Sakovich — The Deluge character guide

> Pan Sakovich in The Deluge by Henryk Sienkiewicz.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Sakovich, the terrified Sakovich, the traitor Sakovich

**First appearance:** 0007-i

## Snapshot

A pale-eyed colonel who carries Prince Boguslav's demands into Sapyeha's camp with the swagger of a victor and the conscience of a hireling.

## Who they are

Sakovich serves the Radzivills as envoy, spy, and willing mouthpiece, arriving before Sapyeha to dictate terms on behalf of a prince who has already betrayed the Commonwealth. His bravado collapses the moment he meets Kmita's stare, revealing the fear beneath the performance. He matters because his embassy crystallizes the novel's central fracture: loyalty to a faction versus loyalty to a country, and the small men who profit from choosing wrong.
