## Who they are

Kaydessa is Hulagur's sister and a fierce voice among the Tatar outlaws, clashing openly with Menlik over whether women may speak in councils of war. Captured by the Apaches, she earns their grudging respect by fighting back rather than cowering, and her terror inside the haunted ship proves she is no less brave for being afraid. Her presence forces Travis to reckon with an enemy who is neither pawn nor prize, and her knowledge of the Horde shapes what the Apaches can learn.
