## Who they are

Gianni di Severino is one of two young men of comparable birth and fortune who both burn for the same fifteen-year-old girl raised by Giacomino, and neither can obtain her honorably because their kinsmen refuse the match. He bribes the servant Crivello to smuggle him into the house when Giacomino dines out, unaware that his rival Minghino has made a parallel arrangement with the maid. His scheme collides with Minghino's on the same night, and the resulting chaos exposes the girl's hidden parentage and forces the whole city to reckon with questions of blood, honor, and who truly deserves to marry.
