# How does The Dead Secret develop the theme of Love and Marriage?

> The Dead Secret by Wilkie Collins

## Answer

The Dead Secret by Wilkie Collins develops Love and Marriage across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.

Marriage is portrayed as both a source of deep devotion (Rosamond and Leonard) and conflict (the Treverton brothers' feud over Captain Treverton's marriage to an actress), testing loyalty across class boundaries.

Mrs. Treverton's love for her husband is evident, yet she cannot bring herself to tell him the secret, showing the tension between marital affection and hidden truths.

The chapter focuses on the affectionate relationship between Rosamond and Leonard, depicting their intimacy and mutual devotion as newlyweds.

Rosamond's actions are driven by her deep love for Leonard; she prioritizes his comfort and safety over her own fears.
