> Levi Gorringe in The Damnation of Theron Ware by Harold Frederic.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Mr. Gorringe, Brother Gorringe

**First appearance:** 0000-part-i-i

## Snapshot

A church trustee whose quiet devotion to Alice Ware makes him a watchful, uneasy presence in the young minister's new household.

## Who they are

Gorringe belongs to the lay machinery of the Tyre congregation, one of the practical men who keep the parsonage running and the pastor accountable. His unspoken feeling for Alice Ware gives his every courtesy a double edge, and Theron's arrival turns private longing into a slow, corrosive test of loyalty. He matters because the marriage at the center of the book is shadowed from the start by a rival who never quite declares himself.
