The Cruise of the Nona · Question
How does The Cruise of the Nona develop the theme of The Meaning of Life?
Answer
The Cruise of the Nona by Hilaire Belloc develops The Meaning of Life across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.
The cruise is explicitly compared to the soul's journey—disconnected, full of happenings and thinkings, leading nowhere yet alive with discovery, emotion, and peril, mirroring human existence.
The chapter explores life as a disconnected string of happenings, full yet meaningless, akin to a boat's wandering voyage.
Philosophical musings on time, death, and the futility of literary fame.
