# Stephen Reynolds — The Cruise of the Nona character guide

> Stephen Reynolds in The Cruise of the Nona by Hilaire Belloc.

**Role:** supporting

**First appearance:** 0002-the-cruise-of-the-nona

## Snapshot

A friend and fellow sailor remembered among the companions of the narrator's voyages, part of the small company that shares the sea's demands.

## Who they are

He belongs to the circle of men who sail with the narrator and understand, without argument, why a small boat worked by one's own hands is the only voyage worth making. His presence in the book's memory reinforces the narrator's creed that the sea's value lies in shared skill and effort rather than in the comforts of a large, crewed vessel. As a recurring companion, he helps establish the human texture of the cruise before the weather and the coast take over.
