Meanwhile, Thalia Drummond receives a package from the Crimson Circle containing a knife and a gauntlet glove, with instructions to enter Froyant's house through a bombproof shelter. Before Froyant can disclose his secret, he is found murdered in his study, stabbed with a knife, and a bloodstained leather gauntlet is left on his desk.
