Organized Crime and Corruption
The story exposes a highly structured criminal enterprise that uses trained operatives, coded plans, and mass-production techniques, reflecting the systematic nature of modern crime.
Courage and Resourcefulness

Class and Social Hierarchy
The house party includes aristocrats, scholars, and criminals, with tensions arising from social status, as seen in Wyatt's disillusionment with a woman from a lower class and the gang's manipulation of social roles.
The Supernatural and Ritual
The Black Dudley Dagger and its associated legend of bleeding in the murderer's hand introduce an eerie, ritualistic element that contrasts with the rational detective work.
