> Eberhard von Faber in The Crime at Black Dudley by Margery Allingham.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Von Faber, von Faber, Faber, Herr von Faber

**First appearance:** 0003-ii-the-ritual-of-the-dagger

## Snapshot

A German guest whose polished manners and watchful stillness make the other visitors at Black Dudley wonder exactly what he is doing there.

## Who they are

Von Faber moves through the Black Dudley weekend party as a courteous foreign gentleman, set apart from the chattering English guests by his composure and his faintly unsettling habit of noticing everything. He is the kind of man whose politeness feels deliberate, and whose presence at a country house gathering seems to answer a question nobody has thought to ask. In the early chapters he sharpens the atmosphere of unease, giving the reader reason to watch the corridors as closely as the guests do.
