## Snapshot

A young baron with a level head and a long memory, he is the friend who sees the pattern before anyone else and still cannot stop it.

## Who they are

Franz d'Épinay is Albert's closest friend and the more cautious of the two, a man who inherited his title and his suspicions in equal measure. He is the one who first encounters the Count of Monte Cristo in Rome and finds him fascinating in a way that feels like a warning. As the Count's web tightens around the people Franz loves, he becomes the reader's stand-in — observant, uneasy, and increasingly certain that something terrible is being arranged with perfect patience.
