The Communist Manifesto · Question
What do communists want in The Communist Manifesto?
Answer
Communists want the proletariat to become the ruling class long enough to abolish class distinctions altogether — ending bourgeois ownership of production, smashing the bourgeois state machinery, and replacing exploitation with social control of wealth communally created. Section II states aims plainly: no private property in the means of production, collective appropriation, extension of education and production for human need.
The Manifesto also specifies tactics: communists represent the movement’s general interests, ally with progressive factions against conservatives, and press international organization. Aims are not secret plots but public program, including controversial measures like centralizing transport and credit. Students should connect wants to the ten-point platform and to defenses against charges about family and religion — each rebuttal ties “communism” back to property relations.
