# Walters — The Clue of the New Pin character guide

> Walters in The Clue of the New Pin by Edgar Wallace.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Mr. Walters, friend Walters

**First appearance:** 0006-vii

## Snapshot

A servant of the Trasmere household whose shifty manner and confessed theft make him the obvious suspect long before the evidence catches up.

## Who they are

Walters hovers at the edges of the Trasmere case as the man everyone wants to be guilty, disliked on sight by Tab and conveniently implicated by his own admission of theft. Yet the deeper the inquiry goes, the less his guilt fits, and his presence forces the detectives to distinguish between a petty criminal and a murderer. His uneasy position matters because he is the wrong answer the story keeps offering, and clearing him is one of the early steps toward the real pattern of the crimes.
