# Louie Wong — The Chinese Parrot character guide

> Louie Wong in The Chinese Parrot by Earl Derr Biggers.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Mr. Louie Wong, Louie, Wong, old Louie

**First appearance:** 0002-iii-at-chan-kee-lim-s

## Snapshot

The ranch's longtime Chinese caretaker, a quiet man whose only real companion is Tony the parrot — and whose sudden absence unsettles everything.

## Who they are

Louie Wong has spent five years tending Madden's desert ranch in near-total solitude, speaking to almost no one except the grey Australian parrot that shares his exile. His silence and self-sufficiency have made him a fixture the ranchers barely know, yet his abrupt departure for San Francisco leaves a gap that a stranger named Ah Kim conveniently fills. He matters because the mystery of his disappearance — and what the parrot might have overheard — sits at the heart of the novel's central puzzle.
