## Who they are

Mrs. Cheyne, once Mrs. Hazelton, lives at Warren Lodge with her daughter Agatha and a staff that includes the watchful Susan, occupying the domestic world her son keeps trying to protect. When she and Agatha return to find the door unanswerable, the cook and Susan bound, and the safe opened, her ordinary evening collapses into the same conspiracy that has been circling her son. She matters because the burglary at her home proves the affair reaches past Cheyne's pockets into the family itself, raising the stakes without her ever needing to understand the game being played around her.
