How does The Castle of Otranto develop the theme of Love and Sacrifice?

The Castle of Otranto by Horace Walpole develops Love and Sacrifice across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.

Romantic love, particularly between Theodore and Matilda, is portrayed as pure and selfless, often requiring sacrifice, as seen in Matilda's devotion to her mother and Theodore's willingness to risk his life.

Matilda and Isabella's willingness to sacrifice their own feelings for each other and for Hippolita exemplifies selfless love.
